Notes and Suggestions

This guide has shown how to make searches of current NOTAMs by Location and by Free Text, and searches of Archived NOTAMs by location. Other types of search are available, but I suggest the user get thoroughly familiar with these three first, then, if desired, experiment with the other types of search.

While using the FAA Notam Search, bear in mind that the site is US American. While the text of NOTAMs use the date-time format yyMMddhhmm, the site shows dates with the format MM/dd/yyyy, except for the date in the archive search entry, where it uses ISO8601 date format yyyy-MM-dd. Also note that in the date selecter, weeks are shown Sun-Sat and not Mon-Sun.

You'll also notice that the site likes to remove the inital K from the ICAO Locator code for places in USA (more precisely, in the contiguous 48 states). The resulting three-letter codes are IATA airfield codes. However,it does not always follow that the ICAO code is simply the IATA code prefixed with K. Using the full ICAO code removes the risk of ambiguity.

There is a more comprehensive list on Wikipedia, though not all issue NOTAMs.
